open source

My contributions in open source.

My work in open source is a blend of passion and profession, centered on the belief that collaborative development can create powerful, accessible technology for everyone. My journey has been a multifaceted one: I began as a hands-on developer, evolved into a mentor guiding new contributors, and now focus on strategic research into the health and sustainability of open-source communities, where my background as a research scholar allows me to apply a uniquely analytical lens. 🔬 I leverage data-driven insights and methodical analysis to design evidence-based strategies that improve contributor retention and foster genuine engagement. 📈 This holistic perspective allows me to not only build innovative software but also to help cultivate the thriving, inclusive, and truly sustainable ecosystems required for long-term success. 🚀

Contributions & Community Engagement

My journey has allowed me to collaborate with and provide leadership to a diverse range of impactful open-source organizations, often through globally recognized programs.

  • CHAOSS Community (The Linux Foundation) is a project dedicated to creating analytics and metrics to help measure open-source community health. My involvement centers on this mission, where I contribute to the research and development of these critical metrics and have served as a Mentor for Google Summer of Code (2021) to guide new talent in this domain and worked as a Research Technical Writer for Google Season of Docs (2020).

  • Mattermost Inc. develops an open-source collaboration platform for secure team communication. In my role as an open source research strategist, I worked with them to analyze and improve the contributor experience, advising on strategies that strengthen their community and make it more welcoming for developers worldwide.

  • Terasology Foundation maintains an open-source voxel game engine with a focus on creative freedom. I have been deeply involved in shaping its development by contributing to core gameplay mechanics and project strategy. A significant part of my role has been providing leadership through mentorship, serving as an Organization Administrator and Mentor for Google Summer of Code (2020) and Google Code-in (2019).

  • Sugar Labs is a non-profit that develops the Sugar Learning Platform, an educational tool used by children globally. I hold a long-standing leadership relationship with the project, helping to steer the development of new educational activities and leading their participation in outreach programs as an Organization Administrator and Mentor for Google Summer of Code (2018, 2019, 2020) and Google Code-in (2017, 2018, 2019).

  • JBoss Community (Red Hat) builds enterprise-grade middleware software. My involvement here was focused on leadership for Google Summer of Code (2019), Google Code-in (2017), where as a Mentor I assisted new contributors in understanding and contributing to large-scale, complex enterprise projects.
